App Economy Generates More than $1 Billion for Massachusetts Economy

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) - Massachusetts ranks as one of the nation’s app industry leaders, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association®  and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy,” found that application development is responsible for 21,400 jobs in Massachusetts, with an economic impact of more than $1 billion. That makes Massachusetts the 3rd most “app intense” state in the country. “App Intensity” is a measure of app economy jobs relative to jobs overall. 

App Economy Generates $2 Billion for Washington Economy

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) - Washington ranks first in the nation as an app industry leader, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy”, found that application development is responsible for 49,800 jobs in Washington, with an economic impact of more than $2 billion. That makes Washington the nation’s most “app intense” state. App intensity is a measure of the number of app economy jobs relative to the number of jobs in a state overall. 

App Economy Generates $788 Million for Virginia’s Economy

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) - Virginia ranks as a national app industry leader, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy”, found that application development is responsible for 15,000 jobs in Virginia, with an economic impact of $788 million. That makes Virginia the 8th most “app intense” state in the nation. App intensity measures the number of app related jobs in a state relative to the number of jobs overall. 

App Economy Generates More than $600 Million for Pennsylvania Economy

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) - Pennsylvania ranks as a top state for app industry employment, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy,” found that application development is responsible for 12,900 jobs in Pennsylvania, with an economic impact of $632 million. 

App Economy Generates $526 Million for Oregon’s Economy

Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) - Oregon ranks as one of the nation’s app industry leaders, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy,” found that application development is responsible for 10,800 jobs in Oregon, with an economic impact of $526 million. That makes Oregon the 4th most “app intense” state in the nation. “App intensity” is a measure in how many app economy jobs are in the state compared with the number of total jobs. 

App Economy Generates $429 Million for Colorado Economy


Washington, D.C. (October 4, 2012) - Colorado ranks as one of the nation’s app industry leaders, according to a study released today by CTIA-The Wireless Association® and the Application Developers Alliance. The research, conducted by South Mountain Economics, LLC and entitled “The Geography of the App Economy,” found that application development is responsible for more than 8,000 jobs in Colorado with an economic impact of $429 million. That makes Colorado the tenth most “app intense” state. App intensity is a measure of the number of app economy jobs in a state relative to the number of jobs overall.
