The App Developers Alliance responded to a letter circulated and signed by several large companies and patent trolls by reaffirming its support for expanding the Covered Business Method Program.
The Application Developers Alliance applauded the growing momentum in Congress behind patent reform legislation that would give patent troll victims a lower cost alternative to challenging a poor quality patent in court.
Washington, D.C. (May 1, 2013) – The Application Developers Alliance praised Senator Charles Schumer’s (D-NY) announcement of his intention to introduce legislation addressing patent troll abuse. Schumer’s bill will expand the Covered Business Method Program, which currently covers only financial services related patents, to apply to all business method patents. The expansion would allow companies to challenge the validity of a troll’s patent in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) as an alternative to expensive and time-consuming litigation.
Washington, D.C. (February 27, 2013) – Today, the Application Developers Alliance thanked Representatives Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) for introducing the SHIELD Act but urged Congress to do even more to protect entrepreneurs from patent trolls.
