Apps Alliance Supports PTO Crowdsourcing to Improve Patent Quality

WASHINGTON, DC – Today the Application Developers Alliance, Engine Advocacy and Public Knowledge submitted comments to the US Patent and Trademark Office regarding the use of crowdsourcing to identify relevant prior art.

Statement from Jon Potter, President, Application Developers Alliance:

“Low-quality patents provide ammunition for patent trolls’ job-killing frivolous litigation. Inviting public input prior to approving patents will improve patent quality and – over time – reduce patent troll litigation.

“Crowdsourcing patent applications is an excellent first step, but it will not diminish the need for comprehensive patent reform legislation to effectively protect America’s digital entrepreneurs from abusive patent trolls.  The Alliance strongly supports post-grant patent quality legislation that helps eliminate overly broad patents that are used for troll litigation.”
