Apps Alliance Applauds Blumenthal, Klobuchar and Heinrich on Introduction of Password Protection Act

Washington, D.C. (May 9, 2012) – Today the Application Developers Alliance, the leading association for the entrepreneurs building America’s fastest growing industry, congratulated Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Martin Heinrich for introducing the Password Protection Act in the Senate and House. The measure takes head on the problem of employers demanding employees’ or applicants’ passwords as a condition of employment.

“Anything that might force a choice between privacy and employment is a choice that no one should have to make. The public cares deeply about privacy, and so do app developers. Requiring applicants or employees to share access to their online sites will blunt the growth of the app economy. That’s bad for consumers’ privacy and counter-productive to business growth.

“That’s why app developers are joining the Alliance and why the Alliance has made it a priority to give developers a voice in the conversation about app privacy. In fact, the Alliance is poised to announce a 15-city tour this summer to convene developers to identify the best practices, technologies and policies being utilized by the app industry to advance consumer privacy, not diminish it,” said Jon Potter, Apps Alliance President.
