Apps Alliance Announces Nationwide Privacy Summit Series

Washington, D.C. (May 22, 2012) The Application Developers Alliance announced today that it will kick off an 18 city App Developer Privacy Summit Series on June 4, 2012 in Austin, Tex. The series will feature panel discussions and topical roundtables to help app developers better understand the changing app privacy landscape and will give developers a voice in the ongoing dialogue.

“The implementation of technologies and policies that protect app users without impeding innovation will rely largely on the leadership, understanding and execution of app developers. The goal of the Privacy Summit Series is to bring the privacy conversation to developers and give them a chance to shape the discussion,” said Jon Potter, President of the Apps Alliance.

The series is sponsored nationally by TRUSTe, AT&T, and [insert other sponsors].

“Everyone in the app ecosystem benefits by making privacy a top priority from the start. This series will give app developers a stronger knowledge base about emerging privacy standards and the need to deliver clear notice and choice for consumers. By proactively addressing privacy management and building trust with their app users, developers can increase the adoption of their apps and help ensure the long-term success of the industry.  TRUSTe is thrilled to share its expertise as a sponsor for this timely and important event,” said Chris Babel, CEO for TRUSTe.

The summit series builds on the success of the Alliance’s initial Privacy Summit held in Palo Alto, Calif. in April, which sold out, drawing more than 200 attendees including 116 working developers.

“It’s our responsibility to figure out how to protect our users’ privacy. We can innovate our way forward, we can adopt the best practices and we can work with policymakers to get it right, but we need to do it as an industry and to start now,” said Trevor Cornwell, CEO of appbackr, at the Palo Alto event.

The Privacy Summit Series will feature an hour-long open discussion guided by industry experts followed by a networking reception. After Austin, the series will go to Los Angeles, Calif. on June 5, and Orange County and San Diego Calif. on June 6.
