Mobile World Congress: Approaches and Attitudes Towards Data Collection

ALLIANCE FEBRUARY MONTHLY REPORT

The Alliance surveyed more than 1,000 attendees at Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest gathering of the mobile industry, to better understand the ways they gather, use, and generally feel about data collection.

Highlights from the report’s findings:

  • 85% of mobile companies at Mobile World Congress told us that collecting and retaining user or customer data is important to their business, with nearly 60% stating that it is “very important” — simply put: data is a critical aspect of their business.

  • An overwhelming majority (75%) of the Mobile World Congress attendees we surveyed agreed with the statement that “efforts by policymakers to limit data retention are concerning because they could hurt further innovation.
